The Geniuses:
Adam
Garrett
Born in Berkeley California in November of 1977, Garrett seemed destined for film from the get go. All it took was seeing the Star Destroyer fly overhead in his very first VHS tape of Star Wars for him to know he wanted to create, or at the very least talk about, the art of movies. Garrett went to the University of Reno Nevada and studied English and Journalism. Afterwards he did everything from work at the ABC news department in San Francisco, to eventually working on a series of independent films, until finally cultivating in a gig working as a coordinating producer for 20th Century Fox.
In the online spectrum, Garrett worked for a site called the Adventure Amigos as both a movie reviewer and the host of his own podcast The Director’s Chair. He then became a core part of Binge Media, taking his podcasts from the interviewing format he had established before to eventually landing on the retrospective podcasts with his good friend Matthew Goudreau.
Now, Garrett has joined forces with Goudreau and his good friend of over thirty years Adam Bunch to start their own venture. Together, they intend to take their site to heights that involve -but aren’t limited to- everything from movies to tv to even professional wrestling. We welcome you to their journey.
Matt
Despite being the youngest member of the trifecta, “Goudreau” as he’s often own by is quite the veteran in entertainment discussion. Matt has been a film writer since his middle school days. What started out as a way to procrastinate lead to something far scarier, which was meeting someone named Garrett Collins. Both of them were mutual members of a movie discussion group on Facebook and unsurprisingly spent their “formative years” arguing back and forth. No one would have guessed that this would turn into a decade of collaboration and close friendship. As luck would have it, Garrett would loop Matt into writing part time for a website which already included one Adam Bunch.
Although each one went their separate ways for a short period, Matt kept as busy as ever. He wrote for sites such as The Nerd Stash and The Young Folks, the second of which provided quite the platform. Matt went from writing on Facebook to having his own Rotten Tomatoes profile and even a Time magazine article hyperlinking one of his editorials. Down the road, a supposed one-off appearance on Garrett’s podcast transformed into Matt partnering on the show full time. Their passion for barb throwing and on-air chemistry lead to the formation of the website you are listening to presently. It seems that Ian Malcolm was correct when he said that “life finds a way.”
Matt’s quite the character if you have the chance to chat with him outside of the airwaves. He’s an avid golfer, poker player, talented impressionist, and a loving “Family Guy.” By the way, the last one isn’t just because he hails from Rhode Island! In addition to chatting about movies on Three Men and a Retrospective, he hosts his own show here talking about his beloved New York Jets. Garrett said yes to this crazy idea because it was cheaper than paying for therapy sessions during the NFL regular season
