With The Aviator, Martin Scorsese proved that he was in on Leonardo DiCaprio for the long haul. And for DiCaprio, the film -much to Garrett’s chagrin- gave him the credibility he had been looking for since being the apple of every teenage girl’s eye in Titanic. So what would they do for a follow up?

How about going back to Scorsese’s gangster roots? With a William Monihan script that generated a fair amount of buzz, and source material in Hong Kong’s Infernal Affairs that was near the top of many critic’s top of the year list, it would seem Scorsese had a lot to work with.

You enter a cast that included Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Vera Fermiga, and Alec Baldwin among others, and you have all the makings of another notch on the belt of the two focuses of this series. But even with The Departed finally getting Scorsese what some say is a long deserved Best Picture win, does it live up to what the boys were expecting? And will Matt be allowed to speak about a movie he’s been looking forward to talking about since this retrospective started, instead of sitting back and letting Mike and Garrett argue?
