“I’m going to scare the hell out of you! And that’s a promise.”

With these two sentences, author Stephen King launched a campaign to top those who directed films before him (unknown directors like Brian DePalma, Stanley Kubrick, David Cronenberg, amongst others) in a trailer that Garrett and Matt have derided since they started working together. But unbelievably, they have not reviewed the movie it’s attached to, 1986’s Maximum Overdrive. Until now.

Even though this review is relatively soon into the Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast’s look at King’s work, Maximum Overdrive was made a decade into his onscreen cinematic presence. So when producer Dino DeLaurentiis told King that he is the real star of his book adaptations and he should direct the next one, the superstar author took the bait. The result is one of the most chaotic -both onscreen and off- productions of all time.

True to his role on this retrospective, Adam had never seen Maximum Overdrive until this review. How would he take the campy approach King’s onscreen product took? And how would Garrett and Matt feel about revisiting a movie they’ve wanted to review together for so long?
