The Ewok Adventure (Caravan of Courage) (1984)

With Matt deciding to celebrate his birthday in Florida, we kind of had to throw a curve-ball. But have no worries Percolated Media listeners, as the boys are nothing if not prepared. We’ll ALWAYS be here to release a new podcast on Fridays. It’s just that this week and next, we’ll have to go with a series that was actually recorded a couple months ago for situations such as this.

After Return of the Jedi, people assumed that George Lucas was done with Star Wars. But it took barely a year for people to know, that he wasn’t even close to being done. As sixteen years before he finished and released The Phantom Menace (a movie we’re getting to soon), Lucas bonded with ABC and long before Disney Plus series such as Ashoka and The Mandalorian, Lucas did his own in World Series by diving into the far east moon of Endor and exploring Ewok adventures that supposedly took place BEFORE the rebels asked for their help in fighting the Empire.

Listen in as the boys review the first of those adventures, Caravan of Courage. They talk about how Lucas came to this idea, why it was made in literally his backyard, and what attention to detail he paid while making this network movie. Hint, it wasn’t much.

Tune in next week as we finish this mini retro with a review of Ewoks: The Battle For Endor. And then they’ll return to schedule and get right back into the Superman series!

Monday Night Wars Episode II: WWF In Your House 3: Triple Threat (1995)

The In Your House concept was a way for WWF, in a difficult period for business, to get some extra revenue by providing smaller PPVs outside of their big 4. We aren’t starting with the first show of this name because it predates the “official” start of the Monday Night Wars. We are instead beginning in September of 1995. Big Daddy Cool Diesel was still WWF Champion and partnering with his BFF HBK in a “winner takes all” title match against Yokozuna and Owen Hart. However, for reasons we mention, this match did indeed change before the bell.

How did the boys feel about McMahon’s first show in their coverage of this era? Tune in for their full discussion of In Your House 3! Next time, they’ll discuss WCW Halloween Havoc 1995 and the infamous “monster truck” match among other things.

Oppenheimer (2023)

2020 was not a very good year for anybody. But it could be argued that in the movie business, no one had a tougher time getting his movie out than Christopher Nolan. As the world was stuck in a pandemic, Nolan was in a fight to keep the theatrical release date of his film Tenet. All while at the same time, Warner Brothers, the studio he had been making films for almost his entire career, decided to put all their oncoming slate of films on the (at the time) HBO Max streaming service.

Now, three years later, armed with a new film -as well as a new studio- Nolan’s name is being mentioned in the same breath as that word which begins with an O and ends in an R, called Oscar. Listen to Matt and Garrett as they continue their look at the career of Christopher Nolan by bringing in their trusted counter part to review Nolan’s new film Oppenheimer. Is all this Oscar talk warranted?

Monday Night Wars Episode I: WCW Fall Brawl 1995

Garrett and Matt begin their journey through the history of wrestling by watching and dissecting WCW’s Fall Brawl ‘95, an event many determine to be the beginning of the Monday Night Wars.

You got it. The tandem are wasting no time diving into the era where the most eyes were on each wrestling product, including the two hosts of this podcast. Why did the boys decide to start here? How is each match on this card? And what is up with Hogan’s military garb? So many questions, and not many answers. But Matt and Garrett will do their best on this, the passion project they have been trying to launch for years. Begin the journey, stay for the matches!

Supergirl (1984)

After Superman III came and went with a whimper in 1983, the Salkinds knew their Superman money machine was in trouble. So much so they were within a few years of making a deal with Cannon Films to take over the franchise. Yet they had one more play. A film that was in development even while Superman III was still in production. One that they were sure would bring a whole new audience to the DC property. Yes, they had Supergirl up their blue sleeves.

Listen in as the boys return to the Superman property they started reviewing back in March, by going through the ‘off shoots’. Beginning with Supergirl and ending with a review of Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice (from Superman’s POV) Garrett, Matt, and Adam are going to be looking at all ways DC tried keeping this property alive, and then dive into what the future holds for the Man of Steel.

Be sure to stay tuned till the end, as the boys announce what they’re going to be reviewing next week!

Episode I: Entering the Squared Circle

It’s finally here. After years of contemplating it, here is the very first episode of Tag Team Podcasting, the project Garrett and Matt have been wanting to springboard forever. Welcome, to their very own wrestling retrospective podcast! Listen to them answer questions like who their favorite wrestlers are, and hypotheticals like what they would do if they were in the wrestling business. As well as what exactly this podcast’s format will consist of.

Note: This podcast was recorded about a year ago, so there are things here, such as where the starting point of this project will be, that as of next week will be different than what is outlined here. Be sure to come back next week as that starting point is revealed, and the boys clear up some wrinkles they hadn’t addressed yet when this intro episode to Tag Team Podcasting was originally recorded.

Thank you for all your support in helping us get this going, and let’s talk some wrastlin’!

Jurassic Park III (2001)

In the interim between The Lost World Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, no one was really clamoring for another visit to the amusement park for which the franchise was named. So what’s a movie studio starved for a successful movie to do? How about make a 90 minute chase movie.

Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they dive right into director Joe Johnston’s third sequel that is about as derided as the Carnosaur film the boys discussed while reviewing the first film. But as teased last week, Matt considers this his favorite of the franchise, and Adam hadn’t seen it before this review. What do they all think?

Download the latest Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast for not only their review of Jurassic Park III, but also let everyone know what the boys are starting next week. It should be, a Super set of podcasts!

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

1993 was a massive year of success for director Steven Spielberg. He not only won the long out of his reach Oscar for Schindler’s List, but he also once again proved he was the box office king with Jurassic Park. With a year like that, and an already twenty plus year career, Spielberg needed a break. But while on his sabbatical, he asked original Jurassic author Michael Crichton to write a sequel to the most successful film of the early 90s.

How much of the Lost World book was actually used in 1997’s adaptation The Lost World Jurassic Park, amongst many other topics, are discussed in this review of the oft derided sequel that even though Joe Johnston had said he was up for the director chores, Spielberg decided he’d do it himself.

Take a listen, and be sure to tune in next week as one of the three men on this retrospective podcast holds Jurassic Park III as his favorite of the series.

Jurassic Park (1993)

In 1993, the concept of dinosaurs was something that was only realized onscreen by puppetry and practical effects. Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend and Jim Henson’s Dinosaurs tv show were about the cream of the crop of what an onscreen dinosaur looked like.

Who better to change this idea than The Beard himself, Steven Spielberg. With friend Michael Crichton publishing a book he told Spielberg was ‘the most expensive movie ever made’, and Spielberg’s career needing a boost after 1991’s Hook coming and going with a whimper, it would seem all the pieces were coming together for Jurassic Park, a film that would change visual effects as we know it.

Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they begin a retrospective 65 million years in the making, beginning with the 1993 original, Jurassic Park.

The Flash (2023)

Well, we said we would do all films Batman was in. And sometimes, being completionists gets us in trouble.

Yes, we will eventually get to the Flash tv movie from the past. But with Michael Keaton reprising perhaps his most popular role, the boys thought it prudent to go ahead and review the 2023 version now.

Listen in as the boys review the latest Andy Muschietti (2017’s It) directed DC release and decide on where DC could have gone from here had the guiding suits behind Warner Brothers and DC not changed.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Being touted as ‘Indy’s last adventure’, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Bar none, the one on this podcast who was looking forward to it the most, is Garrett, a devoted lifelong fan of the character who thought a proper send off was done for Indy at the end of the Crystal Skull. How would he respond to Disney’s version of the send off the character so richly deserves?

Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam in this special Tuesday release of the Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast as they review the Steven Spielberg-less Dial of Destiny, as well as give detailed accounts of their theatrical experiences. They also determine if Logan director James Mangold is up to the task of saying goodbye to one of cinema’s most beloved characters.
And be sure to stay tuned to the end as they reveal what their new retrospective series will be. Hint: it involves one of Indy’s main players.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Sometimes we like to use this space to give an outline as to where the film we are discussing had spawned from and how it came to be made. But really, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is one of the notoriously debated films ever made.

So we are not going to waste your time. Just download the show, and prepare for a debate between the three hosts who have already made this one of the most unpredictable retrospectives we have ever done.

And be sure to come back TUESDAY, as that’s when we will post the long awaited conclusion to the series, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny!!
